The Member for Sandringham Murray Thompson today expressed concern regarding the increase of crime within the City of Bayside.
Crime Statistics comparisons between 2015 and 2016, reveal Bayside’s overall Crime Statistics have increased by 11.2%.
Suburbs of Sandringham and Beaumaris/Black Rock have seen property and deception offences increase by a staggering 62% and 43.5% respectively.
Alarmingly high increases in crimes against the person in the suburb of Highett have skyrocketed by 75%.
Murray Thompson calls upon the Victorian Labor Government to immediately increase police resources to reduce the substantial increase in property and deception offences in Bayside.
Victoria’s population is rapidly increasing but police numbers are static. More police resources need to be dedicated towards combatting crime to keep our community safe.
Bayside householders and business proprietors need to maintain a high level of vigilance to ensure that they do not become victims of the escalating crime spree.
The Shadow Police Minister, Edward O’Donohue noted that if the Victorian Government had not wasted over $1.1 billion on tearing up the East West Link contract it could have built 80 brand new police stations or employed hundreds of new police for years to come.
