The Member for Sandringham Murray Thompson today called upon the Victorian Government to immediately increase police resources to reduce the substantial increase in property and deception offences in the City of Kingston. The Kingston municipal district has seen overall property and deception offences increase by a staggering 24.2%, Deception offences have skyrocketed by 104%. Crime Statistics comparisons between 2015 and 2016, reveal Kingston’s overall Crime rate has increased by 19.8%. Offences include property damage, burglary/ break and enter, theft and deception. Victoria's population is rapidly increasing and more police resources need to be dedicated towards combatting crime to keep our community safe. Kingston householders and business proprietors need to maintain a high level of vigilance to ensure that they don't become victims of the escalating crime spree. The Shadow Police Minister, Edward O'Donohue noted that if the Victorian Government had not wasted over $1.1 billion on tearing up the East West Link contract it could have built 80 brand new police stations or employed hundreds of new police for years to come.
