Fire threatens homes in Cheltenham and destroys home in Sandringham

The Member for Sandringham Murray Thompson paid tribute to the excellent work of emergency service responders in swiftly bringing under control a significant fire which burned out of control threatening nearby homes in Cheltenham on 27 December 2017.

The fire burnt out a section of bushland in Cheltenham Park.

Elvis, the firefighting helicopter was brought in to help control the blaze.

At the height of the blaze nearby homes were threatened and many people were evacuated. A garden shed was destroyed at Cheltenham Primary School.

Fire, Police and Ambulance emergency services also responded to a fire which destroyed a home in Duff Street Sandringham late Wednesday afternoon. The blaze was contained to one property.

Mr Thompson said, “On behalf of the community I thank Victoria’s Emergency Services personnel for keeping our suburbs safe.”
