Member for Sandringham, Murray Thompson MP paid tribute to the parents, staff and Bayside Council officers at the official opening of the upgraded Livingston Kindergarten today, Wednesday 5 June 2013.
Livingston Kindergarten was awarded with a $230,600 Early Learning Facility Upgrade grant for a fully funded extension of the existing community room to make one large, multi-purpose space with two kitchenettes.
The redevelopment also included works to extend the existing children’s bathroom, the relocation of storage space and the extension to the kindergarten outdoor space to provide a natural, environmentally friendly space.
The Early Learning Facility Upgrade grant was available to enhance existing early years’ infrastructure throughout the State. The grant enabled owners of buildings used for funded kindergarten programs to provide additional infrastructure capacity to increase the number of kindergarten places in order to meet the increasing demand for kindergarten, as well as maintain other early education and care programs.
The delivery of this project enabled Livingston Kindergarten to continue running current three and four-year-old programs as they implemented 15 hours, whilst increasing enrolment capacity at the service.
Livingston Kindergarten has a licensed capacity of 48 and in 2013 they have 66 four-year-old enrolments of which 19 families receive the Kindergarten Fee Subsidy.
In 2013 the kindergarten provides three four-year-old groups, two three-year-old groups and offers an extended care option for families. In 2013 the Kindergarten has had a 40 per cent increase in enrolments.
“Livingston Street is a magnificent community hub with multiple programs serving the Highett and extended Bayside community” Mr Thompson said.
