Mentone Hotel added to Victorian Heritage Register
June 23, 2015
Following a visit to Mentone Hotel in November 2014, Member for Sandringham Murray Thompson and the then Minister for Planning Matthew Guy both wrote to Heritage Victoria seeking inclusion of The Mentone Hotel, also known as “The Edgy,” on the State Heritage Register to add to the National Trust listing of this historic property which is a landmark building and part of the local history of the Mentone area.
In March 2015 Heritage Victoria recommended to the Heritage Council that:-
“The Mentone Hotel be included as a Heritage Place in the Victorian Heritage Register under section 32 (1)(a) of the Heritage Act 1995.”
As the Member for Sandringham I am pleased that the Mentone Hotel has now been added to the Victorian Heritage Register.
“The Mentone Hotel is a distinctive landmark feature. It has also been an important gathering place for over 100 years. As the local Member I welcome heritage protection and thank the then Minister for Planning Matthew Guy for initiating the heritage protection process under the Victorian building heritage legislation” Mr Thompson said.
