MORE COMMUTER CAR PARKING NEEDED AT MENTONE AND CHELTENHAM STATIONS

March 07, 2017

The Member for Sandringham Murray Thompson says “It is ludicrous that there will be no net gain in parking around the Mentone and Cheltenham stations following the LXRA grade separation works.”

The level crossing works provide a 1 in 100 year opportunity to expand commuter car parking noting that Melbourne’s population is projected to double over the next 30 years. The short sighted vision on the part of the Government will see the increasingly rapid spillover of commuter traffic into the suburban streets of Cheltenham and Mentone, aggravating existing congestion.

Mr Thompson called upon the Premier, Minister for Transport and Victorian Government to immediately redirect the scoping of the project to include a massive increase in railway commuter car parking in Cheltenham and Mentone to accommodate the increase in demand for railway station commuter car parking.
