The Member for Sandringham, Murray Thompson MP, has called on the Minister for Veterans Affairs and ANZAC House to ensure no stone is left unturned in a bid to maintain the work and preserve the legacy of the Beaumaris RSL.
In February 2017, Mr Thompson spoke of the importance of protecting the heritage of the RSL and sought to explore the potential alignment of Sub Branch activities in Beaumaris.
In the wake of the announcement of the RSL Extraordinary General Meeting on the 14 August to liquidate assets, Mr Thompson said, “every effort must be made to work with current and former members of the Beaumaris RSL to explore the best community outcome respecting the history, heritage and ongoing work of the Beaumaris RSL”.
At a recent community meeting a 94 year old veteran and a 92 year old veteran together with their wives braved the elements of a cold Melbourne winter seeking to put their support behind the campaign to protect and retain the legacy of the Beaumaris RSL.
Mighty work has been undertaken by the Beaumaris RSL together with Legacy and its active Women’s Auxiliary over the past 6 decades.
