March 16, 2015

In November 2014 both the Member for Sandringham Murray Thompson and the then Minister for Planning Matthew Guy wrote to Heritage Victoria seeking inclusion of The Mentone Hotel, also known as “The Edgy,”   on the State Heritage Register to add to the National Trust listing of this historic property which is a landmark building and part of the local history of the Mentone area.

On 13 March 2015 Tim Smith, Executive Director of Heritage Victoria made the following recommendations to the Heritage Council:-

“Recommendation 1: That the Mentone Hotel be included as a Heritage Place in the Victorian Heritage Register under section 32 (1)(a) of the Heritage Act 1995.

Recommendation 2: That Mentone Hotel Car Parl NOT be included in the Victorian Heritage Register under section 32 (1)(b) of the Heritage Act 1995.”

These recommendations will be advertised from 13 March to 11 May 2015. During this time people may make submissions in relation to the proposals.

If there are no objections these recommendations will go before the Heritage Council on 4 June 2015 for consideration.
