The Member for Sandringham Murray Thompson today called upon the Andrews Government to immediately secure and maintain a reliable power supply for Victorian patients who are dependent upon oxygen machines, home dialysis machines and other electrically powered medical equipment.
Mr. Thompson notes with concern the impact on the health and wellbeing of Victorian residents who are dependent upon oxygen machines to maintain general health. During the recent unexpected power outages such as occurred in Melbourne in January 2018, a number of adverse health outcomes were reported.
At least one Sandringham Electorate resident was unable to use his oxygen machine for 12-14 hours on Sunday 28th January 2018 and was later admitted to the Epworth Rehabilitation Hospital for treatment.
Mr. Thompson stated “It is imperative that a reliable source of power be maintained not only to meet the general power supply needs of Sandringham Electorate households, businesses and community services but especially for those in the community who rely upon electricity to maintain life support equipment.”
